We kinda stopped on number 8 the last time... so here's the continuation.
9. Do a quick search on the subject matter on the Bible app you're using. For example, if you wanna know more on what God says about the new creation. Search for "new creation" and use the results as a guide.
10. Don't rush! Even if it's one verse of the Scripture you end up reading for that day it's worth much more than "skimming" through an entire chapter and rushing without actually gaining something tangible. For example if it's 2Corinthians5:17, read it carefully, watch for words worth looking up in the dictionary, look out for tenses, "is" is different from "was" and can mean a whole world of difference in Bible study.
Reminds me of how I got stuck up in a verse of the Scriptures for about 3 months in 2009(1Corinthians6:17) and just couldn't get on to other Scriptures cause I was sucking up all the juice from this one verse. Mehn! That was something!
11. Juxtapose between translations- this part is probably one of the most exciting parts of Bible study. You know, the accounts of Jesus' life and ministry popularly known as the Gospels/synoptic are an incredible example of what translations are. Jesus had 12 disciples and if you had asked each one of them to write on their experience with Jesus none of them would have written exactly what the others would have written. One would place a lot of emphasis on His words, another on his signs and miracles. While another would've have talked more elaborately on the transfiguration experience, another would've been more amazed about his death and another His resurrection. That's why we have 4 accounts of the Gospels and each of them varied in focus and delivery somewhat from the others.
This explains why you also will need different translations to help you get a pretty holistic view of the passages you're studying.
Try reading Psalm 23 in this manner and tell me if you didn't enjoy that age old Scripture even more... c'mon give it a shot before you continue reading.
