PLB Foundation: Safety tips after a natural disaster

It's been an extremely disheartening thing to have seen the spate of natural disasters that have occurred in several countries over the past few weeks, the landslides in Sierra Leone, the floods in parts of Nigeria, the hurricane in the US and many other sad events.

Yet it's good to know that we can do something about it! I, for example prayed for the victims of these disasters and while praying, the Holy Spirit told me to do this. So, for starters, you can pray for these people and God will show you how you can be of help as well.

Jesus said in John 16:33, "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world". So, don't be afraid. Cheer up instead, you've overcome the world and it's misadventures in Him.

These are times for us to be resilient and show that we are a people of love by helping out in whatever way that we can; donating, joining the humanitarian efforts, praying, raising funds etc. Let love motivate us into action today.

After a disaster, damage to property may cause unusual and additional safety hazards. Many disaster-related injuries and deaths occur due to injuries resulting from clean up in the aftermath of a disaster.

How to reduce chances of injury after a disaster

1. General safety tips:
- Wear sturdy shoes when entering a building or walking through debris after a disaster.
- Keep a first aid box containing of basic medical supplies, water, snacks and any other emergency equipment you already have.
- Carry a flashlight when entering dark buildings.
- Do not enter a building if the foundation has shifted or has been weakened.
- Do not demolish a building or house without professional help. Crews from the King County Dept. of Permitting and Environmental Review or licensed contractors can help you.
- Buildings must be declared safe before they can be entered.

2. Heating equipment safety:
- If you smell gas, open all windows and doors. Do not use matches, candles, lighters, or turn on the stove. Sparks can ignite the gas and cause a fire or an explosion. Call the gas company from your neighbor's house.
- If you suspect there is damage to the heating equipment, do not use it until a qualified service representative has checked it.

3. Electrical equipment safety:
- WARNING: Never use wet electrical appliances. They may cause an electric shock, overheat, or start a fire.
- Do not touch any exposed cable or electrical wire.

4. Safe storage of garbage:
- Store garbage away from food and water.
- Have a spare container with a tight fitting lid to store garbage in case regular pick-up is not available.
- Report all unusual waste (animal carcasses, asbestos, and so on) to the necessary authorities.

5. Safety tips for children:
- Do not allow children to wade or play in contaminated water or sand.
- Do not leave cleaning buckets with even small amounts of liquids unattended. Toddlers are "top heavy" and if they topple into a bucket, it may not tip over and they could drown.

6. What to do if an injury occurs:
- Clean puncture wounds or cuts with soap and water. You may need to see your health care provider for a tetanus shot or antibiotics.
- In case of serious injury, go to an emergency room or call your country's emergency number.

Apostle Peter- Running 1

A blend of Bible stories, revelations and fiction (literature license) about Peter's life and somewhat complex choices and decisions. Sit back, relax, cappuccino and enjoy! And Peter was running again, away from the persecution that had once again broken out against the Church. Jesus had been long gone. He missed Him. He still had nostalgia and goose bumps whenever he remembered just how divine Jesus was. He had seen Jesus do a lot of amazing miracles but none quite like the last one- he and his other folks, some 50 of them watched as Jesus levitated into the heavens until no physical eyes could see him again. He said He was going to heaven and of course that was true- Peter knew now by deep conviction that he'd walked with God Himself. And for some reason he thought himself a friend of God. He knew he was going to see Jesus again sometime soon. There was no debate in his heart about this. He loved Jesus or perhaps God- they were one and the same persons to him now. He ...

The Noble

Who is a noble person? Through Scripture references and inferences we'll embark on a journey that seeks to define and show us who God deems to be a noble person and why being one is an absolute no brainer, especially in this present noble-starved age. Pls note- the opinions presented in this article are derivations from the Scriptures and not a carnal fabrication or mere mental or cultural estimation of the author. You can look em up yourself to confirm the assertions and/or suggestions. The term noble/nobleman appears 40 times in the King James version of the Bible but it was first used in Exodus24:11 to describe certain "elders" who were to work alongside Moses in leading, guiding and directing the people of Israel according to the desires of God. Point to note is they were "leaders" and men of high repute often in the classification of princes and rulers over other people. So, if you're over anyone in leadership you're actually a noble save t...

Going on to know Him

People easily judge other people when they don't know them. We all may be guilty of this. A Lotta times, we stereotype people by how they look, their dressing and outward mannerisms ever before we hear them speak. I have been shocked many times of how guilty I've been with this. The most recent of such a person I nearly badly stereotyped turned out to be such an incredible person, so different and special in her way and she helped me in many beautiful ways such that we became pretty cool friends in the space of just a few months but this was the same lady I almost thought was way away from my type of friends. We've all made such mistakes so don't look at me that wayπŸ˜ΆπŸ˜‡. When we were done with the project that brought us together, I offered to take us to an icecream spot- it would probably be the last time we were seeing so it was my way of saying "thanks". There I told her how I had felt about her when I first saw her and she was somewhat unsurprised and sa...
