The perfect example

"And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour."   Ephesians  5:2  Christianity is a life of love. I reckon the power of God never flows without love in action. The scriptures talk about how Jesus taught His disciples on the right "sacrifice",   Matthew  5:23 "Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;  5:24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.".  I remember the first time I ever saw this scripture, it demystified my understanding of God as just a Spirit, I found out that God really is a person, one who wants peace amongst all men, He says no matter what gift you bring to Him, if you're not right or in right terms with another person your gift will not be accepted. Hmmmnn, could this be the reason why man

Fighting Temptations

Hebrews  4:15  For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Temptation is a test on the ability to control the will/desires of man. Every man at one point or the other has witnessed temptation or  been tempted. The scripture above depicts this. Jesus is the standard for every Christian, He was without sin, nevertheless He also was tempted, and then the Bible says something profound, it says "...but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin" . Now, if He was as we are on the Earth with diverse temptations, yet without sin, without falling into any of the temptations, then what did He do to wade off temptations? Well, the scriptures give us an hint, (Matthew 4:1-11), Jesus fought temptations with words, not just words, but the documented word of God, the established word of God, if we must win any fight against any temptation, it must coke from and by the w

Distinguishing intentions

2 Samuel  3:26  And when Joab was come out from David, he sent messengers after Abner, which brought him again from the well of Sirah: but David knew it not.    2 Samuel  3:27  And when Abner was returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside in the gate to speak with him quietly, and smote him there under the fifth rib, that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.   One thing we must be sensitive to is the ability to quickly distinguish between genuine care and concern from selfish motives. Many people have lost true friends due to the inability to easily decipher a genuine concern from a fake one. The scriptural text above is quite a fascinating story. Abner, Saul's army general sought to work for David after Saul's demise, however David would give him a condition before allowing him work for him. Now, Joab, one of David's mighty men had "unsettled scores" with Abner, Abner had killed his brother Asahel. So Joab nursed this grudge, and waited for a perfect day

You're a profit maker

Proverbs  14:23 "In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury." Labour is anything you exercise either physical, mental or spiritual action on. The scripture above shows something remarkable about Labour. It says, "in ALL labour there is profit..." . This is great stuff. A lot of times people look at the "tasking" aspect of labour, however, the Bible says in all labour, there is profit. It didn't say, in all labour, there is loss. He says " profit", someone might say but there are certain times loss are incurred in labour, well, the Bible says "in all labour, there is PROFIT", so what does this mean? It means no matter what you've experienced, you must not accept anything less than " Profit" alone, God's will for us is profit in any and every labour. You know, personally in my own experience, I've had businesses I made profit in, there are some that probably didn't go as

Pay any price for inspiration

Proverbs  23:23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding" My Pastor back on campus once said something profound, he said "Pay any price for inspiration", as simple as this statement is, it carries a lot of power and even being backed up by the scriptures itself. Inspiration is very important, most often times, people laugh off those who inspire others through teachings or experiences. Some times, people even take a jab at " motivational speakers ", saying " well, all they know how to do is talk", well, do you know inspiration isn't found everywhere?. Have you heard a fool speak?, the Bible talks about staying away from those you perceive foolishness from their lips. The fact you see someone inspiring others doesn't mean he/she is a talkative, some people are specially gifted of God to inspire others because God has set an aspect of Man's journey in life to be triggered by INSPIRATION. Inspiration i

The most excellent way

John  13:35 "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." The identity of every Christian is love(agape), the God-kind of love, the love that holds no reason for its nature. The above scriptural context shows Jesus telling us how everyone would know we belong to Him.Its quite amazing that Jesus never mentioned by prayer, preaching, or even praise/worship shall all men know we belong to Him, He says "Love". This is just remarkable, it shows the priority God puts on Love, " agape", the love that holds no reason for its nature. In our everyday living, we must act towards others ingenuously, not necessarily having an attachment to it. No matter the duration or length of tongues you speak, if you don't love others ingenuously, there's no sign you're a Christian, no matter how "strong" your preaching is, love cannot be substituted. Love is acted, its shown. It's demonstrated. I love the picture

Right Labour

Proverbs  23:4  "Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom." When God created Adam, the first instruction given to Adam from God was to "manage", you could as well say Adam was the first ever Manager on Earth. A Manager adds value to preserve and influence for greater productivity. Man was created to add value through his value. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome says " work on being not on having, for with what you are, you would have", such a profound statement. God didn't create man to work for money, He created man to add value through his value. Adam was to add his value to manage the resources God left in charge of him. Well, you might say "But everyone has a job, and in my job, I clearly work so that I can make money" , well if you ever think you're working for money, that's a very wrong mindset, you don't work for money, you add value for money. No one in practical terms works for money, because if you work for money, it t

Strive for excellence

Genesis  1:31 "And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good..."  Exceptionalism is a fruit of an addiction to excellence. Well, while it's so true there is grace, however, there is also a big room for "personal excellence". Excellence is and should be the standard for anyone who chooses to go far. Excellence brings exceptionalism which then leads to a unique brand. It's so sad that most people have thrown the culture of excellence to the winds at the expense of just making "ends meet" even if it requires cutting corners to get a job done. As a person, I value excellence over finishing a job "on-time". While " Timeliness" is a very important value to have, "Excellence" is quite different, it's unique,  Excellence is you when you have it . I remember couple of days ago, I was "doing" dishes, I had finished and left the Kitchen, then I remembered, while I cleaned the sink, it see

Honor Parents

Exodus  20:12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. Parents are the  greatest asset anyone could  ever have. They are the first trainers a child has by default, they show a child the way, bringing up that child in the way that child should go, though we have parents who neglect bringing up their child rightly or not even being there for the child at all, however, the role of a good parent is to bring up a child, and that role is best done by a parent. So good parents train up their children, they make sacrifices for their children, they give all so that their children can stand tall, and when you have parents who do this, a child who doesn't honor them is automatically set for a curse. God in His admonition to the Israelites said "Honor thy father and mother :that thy days may be long upon the land..."   This is the first commandment God gave, even with a promise. Honoring parents is so important if

A lesson from Jephthah

Judges  11:30 And Jephthah vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If thou shalt without fail deliver the children of Ammon into mine hands,  11:31 Then it shall be, that whatsoever cometh forth of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, shall surely be the LORD's, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering . You know one of the times we are so pressured to speak is when we are in seeming desperate need of something. Sometimes, it could be when you want to get something from someone and then you promise "heaven on earth" just to get that thing, this is a dangerous place to be. The story in context here is of a noble man who out of desperation for victory made a wrong wrong vow to God.  He said if God would give him victory in war, he would offer unto the LORD the first thing that comes out of his house on his arrival back, O what foolishness! This was nothing short of a desperate man. Desperation has led many to untimely deaths

Always prepared!!!

1 Samuel  17:26 "David asked some soldiers standing nearby, ''what will a man get for killing this Philistine and stop him from insulting our people?''..." (CEV) "What will a man get for killing this Philistine?" , a question every man on the field wanted to ask, but only one man could. I heard a man say yesterday " opportunities don't come until you come", I was like "bang"!😅 . I draw inspiration not just from the anointing that worked in David prior to his defeating Goliath but on the process he had gone through. David was always a prepared man. I think we all focus on the anointing that worked in him before he killed Goliath than his attitude of being "always prepared". A man who was always ready to kill anything that came his way to harm needed no nudge to fight a Giant, I reckon David didn't go out against the Giant because He felt he had been anointed, He went out against the Giant because He was always

Unquestionable standing

Romans  4:8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin. The scripture above is a part of Paul's explanation on the concept of "Righteousness", prior to this, He(Paul) had established how Abraham had received right standing with God through faith in God, Abraham would be called by God, and he believing in God, responded without doubting, and then it was accounted by God to him for righteousness. Now then Paul goes to the next part after establishing Abraham's righteousness, using Abraham still as an example, He says " blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin". The concept of this sentence is actually very powerful, the English word "impute" used in this sentence is translated from the Greek word " logizomai " , it's an accounting word, it's a word used in the Greek lexicon when account and records are to be taken about something. Now, " logizomai "   means not to account or record something as

The Peace of God

John  14:27  "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." If you're a good student of the WORD as you ought to be(2Tim2:15), you'd know what the above text scripture really means. The scripture above shows there really are two kinds of peace, the peace the world gives, and the peace Jesus gives. Many at times, people have often inferred peace to be the absence of trouble, well, but not entirely so, peace isn't really the absence of trouble, peace is the presence of Jesus, He is the Prince of Peace. There is such a peace a man can enjoy that the world gives, the man wouldn't be troubled, yet He won't be fulfilled, only Jesus gives the kind of peace, that brings fulfillment. HE said to us(His disciples), He leaves His peace with us. I'd like to give a little exposé on the Peace Jesus really gives. The story in (Mark 4:39) shows Jesus in the boat w

True meaning of "Love"

Matthew  22:39  And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.  One of the greatest ways to show you love someone is to pray for that person. Love is an affection and also a decision, it's the connection of your heart to the delight of another, however a lot of times, many confuse love with "feelings", when you feel connected to someone, you say you love that person, is that love? Oh no! Love often times is a decision and affection, and often times this affection drives you to desire good for that person, you begin to see that person as yourself, and whatever you'd choose to do for yourself will correspondingly be the same thing you'd choose to do for that person, that's why Jesus said " ... Love your neighbour as yourself" .  Love is only defined when you desire for someone what you desire for yourself. Without a question of doubt, you pray for  yourself frequently, now it's time to channel prayers for others, the gr

Make a move, Don't sit

Job  22:29  When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person. Life is really about choices, and may I even say intentional choices, both the choices we make, the choices we don't make. When we make a decision, that's a choice, when we don't make a decision, that in itself is also a choice. The scripture above depicts the character life in itself takes. Eliphaz in his answer to Job, by the Spirit told Job, "when MEN are cast down, YOU shall say there is lifting up" , gives a picture of things affecting men generally, but you have a decision to single out yourself by claiming what you want to see for yourself. He tells Job, when others are cast down, you have a choice to say you are lifted up. How true this is, well on the flip side, when things happen generally to others around you, you can choose either of two things: 1. To either accept the same fate. 2. To consciously create a different atmosphere for yourse

Word of His Grace!!!

Acts  20:32 "And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified." One of my most favourite scriptures is the above quoted. I love it so much because it explains the total package for the Christian. These were Paul's final words by the Spirit before departing Troas where he had preached for 7 days. From this scripture, its clear to know that not every Christian enjoys the inheritance received in Christ Jesus after salvation. He says "the word of his grace which is able to ... and to GIVE YOU AN INHERITANCE...". If every Christian received an inheritance in Christ after Salvation, this scripture shows us that not every Christian enjoys it. For instance, one inheritance in Christ is "wisdom", but not every Christian often time functions in this wisdom, so this scripture tells us why, He says the "word of his grace" is the reason

Life Guard

Psalms  91:1 "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." 91:4 "He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler." As a believer, one thing you must come to agreement with is truly, God protects His own. Irrespective of whatever you hear others say, you must come into the agreement that God protects His own. You know some people usually would say, "well,if there really is a God, why did He allow that woman die, why did He allow that man die", well, God loved Enoch so much that He 'took' him, what about that?, God loved Moses so much that He told Moses it was time for Him to come to Heaven, what about that?. A lot of people have associated death with wickedness from God which should not be so. God's protection isn't deficient by a man's death. In the Psalm above, the Psalmist likens the protection of God like t

It's hard for you to kick against the pricks!

Matthew  21:44  And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder There are people whose forte is to criticize and find fault in anything that has to do with the church of Jesus Christ. The funny and ironic part of this is that some of these people are also 'Christians', then you wonder what Christianity are these folks practising. Some work for media houses, and sometimes are told to write against a certain Pastor or a certain Ministry, and then they go ahead. Some also use their social media platforms to make derogatory remarks on Churches, this ought not to be so. The scripture above comes to my mind every time I see these things, Jesus in His admonition said in paraphrase "anyone who falls on the stone(the church) will be broken, and then anyone who the stone(the church) falls upon will be crushed to powder",  this is huge. So many people wonder why they have seemingly made low progress over the

365 opportunities!

Psalms  90:12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.  The beauty of a new year is the opportunity it brings for a "fresh start", otherwise ,it would just be another normal number of days. Someone posted a message on his timeline " Happy new year, I wish you good use of the 365 opportunities this year affords us", and I thought that's true, a wise man would see a new year as a fresh start for many opportunities. I love the scripture above, it's a Psalm of Moses when the Israelites had left Egypt, I'm pretty sure the Israelites would have had a lot of time to themselves in the wilderness, not being enslaved in Egypt anymore or working under the brutal whip of the Egyptian taskmasters, they definitely might not have had anything important to do with their time, out of this idleness, Moses says to God "...teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts to wisdom" . Just look at that, Moses prays to Go

Accommodate people

Matt9:13-15 "One day children were brought to Jesus in the hope that he would lay hands on them and pray over them. The disciples shooed them off. But Jesus intervened: “Let the children alone, don’t prevent them from coming to me. God’s kingdom is made up of people like these.” After laying hands on them, he left."(MSG)  Though the verse above is mostly associated with Jesus talking about the kind of people the Kingdom of God is made up of. However, one important aspect we often overlook is Jesus was also teaching about 'receptiveness' and 'accommodation' here. Sometimes too many people out of 'fame' become unnecessarily hostile towards others. Some even maintain, they are being protected by security from harm, well, protection from harm doesn't equate being hostile towards people. I maintain Jesus was/is the most famous man to walk the face of the Earth, yet He showed a very accommodating demeanor. It also comes to those who sometimes feel too

Happy New Year!

Isaiah  54:2"Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes;   54:3 For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited.   54:4 Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more" It's a new year already. 2021 has begun. 2021 is a great year, the days of 2021 are laid with a lot of great tidings. However, one very important ingredient of 2021 is "Optimism", Optimism is very important in enjoying the year 2021. The blessings of God are activated with an optimistic spirit, the pessimist has never really enjoyed God's blessings. 2021 is a year where you've got to have extreme optimism about everything
